This highly interactive exhibition, developed by Questacon – The National Science and Technology Centre in Canberra, captures the spirit of innovation.
Simple machine technologies featured include: cams, gears, pneumatics, levers, pulleys, wheels and electricity. These are brought together in ’The Energy Machine’ – a whimsical, egg-sorting and transporting gravitram, which also demonstrates several types of energy transformations.
The free play exhibits, Wall Maze and Topple Table, encourage open-ended experimentation for younger visitors. Recent inventions developed by innovative Australians are also highlighted, along with advice on ’How to be an Inventor’.
Participation in the Simple Machines Science Show would assist in developing the key science concepts of Force, Work and Mechanical Advantage.
Curriculum relevance – Science: Simple Machines, Forces, Transferring and Transforming Energy. Links can also be made to the Design, Creativity and Technology domain.
