Responsible for financial strategy, staff and organisation development, strategic facilities management, maintenance of a risk-controlled environment for staff and visitors, and the operation of Museum Victoria's commercial businesses. Also responsible for policy development, legal services, governance, planning and providing support for the Museums Board of Victoria.

The Public Engagement Division is responsible for leading the museums engagement online, onsite and offsite. Visitors to Melbourne Museum, Bunjilaka, Scienceworks the Immigration Museum and Royal Exhibition Building along with our education and community programs are supported through the provision of multichannel online resources. This is achieved in collaboration with staff from across Museum Victoria.
The Division provides leadership in the effective use of information technology to support the organisation to negotiate the rapidly changing external environment. As the State Museum of Victoria we also have a responsibility for community and outreach programs that engage the broadest possible audience.

Dr Robin Hirst BSc(Hons) PhD DipEd
Appointed August 1999
Robin leads Museum Victoria’s research program; the development, management and conservation of the State’s Collection; and the exhibitions for Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks and the Immigration Museum. He is responsible for the development of print publications, planetarium shows and online content.
