The popular adults-only evening Big Kids’ Night Out is returning to Scienceworks on Saturday 27 October – this time with a few scary, spooky and slimy science twists.
“We’ll be getting in the mood for a night of creepy science fun early with some slimy experiments, spooky lightning, scary films and creepy crawlies”, said Vera Gin, Science Program Manager.
“People are also encouraged to dress-up for the occasion as a ghoulish geek, zombie scientist or scary science experiment, and we’ll be offering a prize for the best dressed on the night.”
Big Kids’ Scary Night Out marks the third in a series of evening programs that sees Scienceworks open its doors late, strictly for visitors aged 18 years and above.
In addition to having free rein of all of Scienceworks’ interactive exhibitions, including perennial favourites Sportsworks, Nitty Gritty Super City and special exhibition Wallace & Gromit’s World of Invention, ‘Big Kids’ can choose to experience either a hair-raising Lightning Room show or a selection of immersive short films in the Melbourne Planetarium.
In line with the theme of the evening, those who are prone to arachnophobia or entomophobia (fear of insects) will be able to come face-to-face with the object of their fears under the supervision of Museum Victoria’s Live Exhibits team.
“’Big Kids’ nights are all about giving adults a chance to explore Scienceworks without the little kids,” said Gin.
“There’s a lot of science behind what might often be seen as spooky. Big Kids’ Night Scary Night Out is a great tongue-in-cheek way for us to explore some of this, while reminding people that that science isn’t just for kids.”
