Hop into the Discovery Centre during Frog Week (1-7 November) and find out all about frogs.
Learn how to identify different species, find out about frog conservation and discover the differences between frogs and toads. Listen to frog calls, learn what frog species live in your area and visit our new display of live Rocky River Tree Frogs (Litoria lesueuri).
Rocky River or Lesueur’s Tree Frogs live in sclerophyll forest, woodland and associated grassy areas, and are common around fast-flowing streams. Males call from the ground near water and can be heard from August to May—their call sounds like soft purring.
There are also Rocky River Tree Frogs on display in the Forest Gallery at Melbourne Museum, some of which have recently laid eggs.
The Discovery Centre is located on the lower ground floor of Melbourne Museum in Carlton Gardens, and is open from 10:00am to 4:30pm seven days a week.
