Museum Victoria’s Discovery Program has unveiled its newly decorated van.

The van is used by the Discovery Program to present programs in the community for those who find it difficult to visit one of our venues, for reasons including age, geographic distance, hospitalisation and imprisonment.

Promoting Museum Victoria throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria, the van travels over 40,000 kilometres a year. The design was produced by Dot Georgoulas in Production Services, in consultation with Marketing, Public Relations and Discovery Program staff.

Engaging viewers by providing a colourful visual experience, ‘Discover Museum Victoria’ and the Museum’s website are printed on each of the van’s panels. This accompanies six icons reflecting Museum Victoria’s venues:

  • ‘The Creator,’ a painting from Bunjilaka's collection, by Jason Walker aged 10
  • Peter Trusler’s ‘Serendipiceratops’ and Kate Nolan’s ‘Hadrosaur,’ reflecting Melbourne Museum’s Evolution Gallery (also Discovery Program’s most popular topic – Dinosaurs & Fossils is booked out every day of the year!)
  • a photograph of Cuc Lam’s suitcase and a travel document with an 1857 passport, indicating the Immigration Museum’s stories and travel experiences
  • a photograph of a young Scienceworks visitor superimposed against a ship’s sextant pillar from c1820, signifying Scienceworks’ interactivity
  • a photograph of the Royal Exhibition Building's exterior, superimposed over elements from an exhibition souvenir
  • an image of young visitors to IMAX, Melbourne's 3D theatre.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the van while out and about – you can’t miss it!
