Museum Victoria wins 'the Oscars of the museum world' – an international MUSE Award – for its interactive exhibit, 'Water Smart Home.'
Awarded by the American Association of Museums, the MUSEs are the world's only awards for museum multimedia projects. This year a total of 138 applications were received from museums in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia.
Housed at Melbourne Museum, the winning Water Smart Home exhibition was funded by the Smart Water Fund, a Government initiative to encourage innovation in water saving and recycling.
Liza Dale-Hallett, Senior Curator of the Water Smart Home exhibit, said the Museum won Gold in the Science category, specifically in the recognition of the highest standard of excellence in the use of media and technology for interpretation and education in Science.
'The Water Smart Home has been a very popular exhibit within the Museum – and now it will be even more so! We wanted to offer a practical demonstration of how easy it is to save water in the home and encourage all Victorians to be smart with water,' Ms Dale-Hallett said.
On announcing the Gold MUSE, judges said the entry was 'an engaging exhibit covering the topic of water conservation, with a goal to educate visitors on how to conserve water in their homes.'
Dennis Cavagna, spokesman for the Smart Water Fund, said the Museum’s win demonstrated the standard of excellence funded projects aspire to. 'The win is fabulous news for Museum Victoria. We’re delighted to have played an important part in getting this exhibit off the ground.'
