What do children like at Melbourne Museum?

To find out what younger visitors really like to see and do at Melbourne Museum, we recently asked them to paint or draw their favourite museum-related thing.

The results were a visual treat, and many descriptions by the young artists were informative as well. As four year-old Keniesha Ryan noted:

‘It was a sunny day at the museum and we saw a big brown snake with a man and a beautiful butterfly and lots of bugs and creatures.’

Children drew and wrote about a wide variety of favourite displays and experiences, from making dinosaurs and playing in the Children's Gallery's dinosaur dig to visiting the Mummies exhibition.

Five of the art works were chosen to go on display in The Hamada Children’s Museum of Art in Japan. These are among a selection of paintings and drawings that can be viewed in the image gallery at right.
