A cavalcade of veteran vehicles adorned the Melbourne Museum plaza last Saturday.

More than 40 vehicles were displayed as part of the 100th anniversary re-enactment of Australia's first long-distance Motor Reliability Motor Trial.

Held in February 1905, not long after the first motor car had been introduced to Australia, the original event took place between Sydney and Melbourne over five days and a distance of 572 miles, much of it on rugged dirt roads.

The re-enactment followed the original route as closely as possible - albeit with much improved road conditions. Commencing in Sydney last Monday and finishing in Melbourne on Friday, the event was open to veteran vehicles built before 31st December 1918.

Visitors of all ages admired the magnificent folk and their amazing driving machines.

These included a 1914 Harley Davidson motorcycle, 1909 Renault and a legendary Model T Ford, which along with many other vehicles brought the Museum plaza alive with their colour and history.
