Recognition for cultural diversity in the voluntary sector.
Museum Victoria was recently awarded an "Excellence in Cultural Diversity Award: Increasing Cultural Diversity in the Voluntary Sector," in the category for mentoring volunteers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The award was presented on the afternoon of Thursday 24th February at Parliament House by The Hon. John Pandazopoulos MP, Minister assisting the Premier with Multicultural Affairs. A medallion from the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia and certificates were presented to Lisa Flower, Manager, Volunteers Museum Victoria and Georgie Meyer, Manager, Visitor Programs Immigration Museum.
The award came out of a cultural diversity course, ‘Step into Voluntary Work,’ organised by the Australian Multicultural Foundation and Judith Miralles & Associates, which many Museum Victoria staff attended. This course was extremely valuable, providing the means to put strategies and actions into place to review, recognise and increase both cultural diversity and understanding within our volunteer program.
We are extremely proud of the diversity within Museum Victoria’s volunteer program. The range of skills, talents and experiences that volunteers bring to the museum enormously benefits the work undertaken by museum staff. It also enhances programs and activities offered to the public, adding value to the visitor experience.
