Imparja Cup players visit First Eleven exhibition for inspiration.

Players from Victoria’s Imparja Cup cricket squad made a visit to the Immigration Museum yesterday to see the exhibition, The First Eleven: Aboriginal cricketers ahead of their time.

The group also got some inspiration from high profile Victorian and Australian batsman Brad Hodge, who was on hand to present them with special caps and good wishes for their tour.

Beginning on 23 February, the Imparja Cup is a national Indigenous cricket competition played annually in Alice Springs. Cricket Victoria is supporting the tour of the Victorian team, and hopes that the success of the players will encourage more young Aboriginal men and women to take up cricket.

The Victorian Imparja players enjoyed their visit to the Immigration Museum, and took inspiration from the stories of the 1868 Aboriginal team, who were the first Australian cricketers to tour England.

The First Eleven exhibition is showing in the Immigration Museum’s Community Gallery until Sunday 26 March.
