Tuesday 17 October saw the launch of Melbourne’s Wildlife: A field guide to the fauna of Greater Melbourne at Melbourne Museum.
From bull ants to foxes, sugar gliders to beetles, Melbourne’s Wildlife is a complete reference guide to fauna in the Great Melbourne area, including parks, bushlands and backyards.
Published by Museum Victoria and CSIRO PUBLISHING, colour photographs of featured species are accompanied by detailed descriptions and notes about behaviour, habitat and distribution.
The publication also includes extensive feature maps to find wildlife such as koalas, platypus, and lyrebirds, as well as significant marine and national parks.
"Melbourne’s Wildlife is the first time so much of Melbourne’s unique wildlife has been included in a publication," said Dr Robin Hirst, Director Collections, Research and Exhibitions, Museum Victoria. "I'm also especially pleased that we have been able to utilise the research undertaken by Museum Victoria’s scientists to contribute to this exquisite publication."
Melbourne’s Wildlife is on sale at the Melbourne Museum shop, online from CSIRO PUBLISHING from www.publish.csiro.au as well as selected bookstores (RRP $39.95).
