Even Zeus and Persephone couldn’t stay away from the Immigration Museum’s annual Kids Fest!

On Sunday 15 January around 1000 visitors were entertained by activities just for kids, based on the special exhibition Greek treasures: from the Benaki Museum in Athens.

Kids started the day by making replica Greek urns, gold wreaths, silver embossing and ancient toy horses. Armed with their crafty creations, they entered the Greek treasures exhibition to see the real thing and absorb over 8000 years of Greek history.

After lunch, Zeus and Persephone roamed the classical columns of the Long Room, chatting with children about mythical stories from ancient times.

The Courtyard then came alive with the sounds and sights of Greece, as children formed large circles for classical and folk dancing classes. Live band Rebetiki entertained dancers and diners alike, playing traditional folk tunes and melodies while hungry families munched on dolmades, spanakopita and BBQ sausages.

Visitors, staff and volunteers all had a great day. The next Kids Fest, Experience Bollywood, will run in 2007.
