Museum Victoria staff came together on Monday 3 July to celebrate the start of NAIDOC Week, with a breakfast and flag-raising ceremony.
This national week of celebration for Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people runs from 2 to 9 July, with the theme: 'Respect the past, believe in the future'.
An annual event to mark the start of NAIDOC Week, Museum Victoria’s flag-raising ceremony is one of several hundred such events held across Australia.
Museum staff members Jarara McIntyre Cooper and Will Patten raised the Aboriginal flag in Bunjilaka’s Milarri Garden, providing a special moment to honour and remember Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout the country.
The Aboriginal flag will also fly on the Royal Exhibition Building flagpoles throughout NAIDOC Week.
