Scienceworks and Coates Hire have joined forces to create the Coates Cube at Birrarung Marr.

On display during the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games, the 12m tall Coates Cube dominates the Birrarung Marr skyline.

The creation is a highlight of the Interact@Birrarung Marr precinct, where more than 1.9 million visitors are expected during the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.

The cube is a huge ‘mousetrap’ style ball run made entirely out of Coates products, including scaffolding parts, witches' hats and wheelie bins.

During the Games, the Coates Cube will be home to a team of Scienceworks experts, who will delight visitors six times a day with a free, gravity-inspired show.

‘Coates is to be congratulated on their innovative approach to presenting everyday construction objects in a scientific, entertaining and educational manner,’ said Genevieve Fahey, Manager, Scienceworks.

‘Scienceworks is delighted to be involved with the Coates Cube and to bring elements of science and fun to Birrarung Marr during the Games.’

This exciting new display was project-managed by Scienceworks staff Patrick Watt and Genevieve Wadham.

Coates Hire is an official sponsor of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
