Bunjilaka recently hosted a special weekend workshop, which brought together fathers and their sons and daughters to learn traditional spear-making techniques.
Bluey Roberts from the Bairnsdale Keeping Place introduced Victorian Aboriginal families to the traditional practice of making fishing spears, using fire to dry and straighten tree saplings before working them into spears.
The workshop presented an important opportunity for different generations to come together, to share experiences and learn a traditional practice.
Taking place in Bunjilaka’s Milarri Garden over two days, the workshop was supported by the Indigenous Cultures Department of Museum Victoria. It will be followed by a spear-fishing expedition at a later date.
