A veritable festival of frogs is on display at Melbourne Museum during the school holidays.

Visit the Museum’s DNA Lab to learn about frog conservation in Victoria, see DNA being extracted and take part in identification and colouring activities.

While you’re there, be sure to hop down to the Discovery Centre where a special live display of Rocky River Tree Frogs (Litoria lesueuri) has joined our other exciting live exhibit—the Veiled Chameleon.

Rocky River or Lesueur’s Tree Frogs live in sclerophyll forest, woodland and associated grassy areas, and are common around fast-flowing streams. Males call from the ground near water and can be heard from August to May—their call sounds like soft purring.

More live frogs can be seen on permanent exhibit in the Forest Gallery.
