The Melbourne Planetarium has won a 'Domie' for its new show, Black Holes: Journey into the Unknown.
Competing against 14 finalists selected by an international jury, Black Holes received the award for Best Visual and Story Narrative—one of five awards on offer at the 2007 DomeFest, held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on 21 July.
Black Holes: Journey into the Unknown explores the dark and mysterious world of black holes. Narrated by Geoffrey Rush, the show presents the latest scientifc data and takes an in-depth look at the Universe’s most bizarre creation.
Black Holes was the Melbourne Planetarium's first entry into this competition, described as 'the Oscars of the Planetarium world'. The show was written by Dr Tanya Hill, Melbourne Planetarium Astronomer, and produced by Museum Victoria’s in-house Planetarium production team.
'We are very proud of the work we do on our Melbourne Planetarium shows and to win a "Domie" award is an amazing achivement for us and Museum Victoria," said Dr Hill.
