The Dynamic Map has received the 2009 Silver MUSE Award in the Interpretive Interactive Installations category. The award was collected by Museum Victoria CEO Patrick Greene at a ceremony in Philadelphia, USA on 30 April.
The MUSE Awards, presented by the American Association of Museums (AAM), recognises outstanding multimedia in museums. The Dynamic Map was among some 250 entries from a wide variety of museums in North America, Europe, Australia and Asia. It has already received a 2008 Victorian Premier’s Design Award and was a finalist in the 2008 Australian Teachers of Media (ATOM) Awards.
Museum Victoria commissioned local multimedia design company ENESS to create the Dynamic Map in collaboration with The Melbourne Story project team. The map illustrates Melbourne’s expansion and development in a unique blend of illumination, animation and interactivity that connects exhibition visitors with their own experience of the city. About the Dynamic Map, the AAM jury commented, “through its artistry and content, this wonderful interpretive experience provides visitors with a multilevel experience that is both socially connected and deeply respectful of both the museum's content and the visitor's contribution.”
The Dynamic Map can be viewed daily in the Melbourne Gallery at Melbourne Museum.
