Dachshund U.N. report

21 May, 2010

The first Dachshund U.N., a 2010 Next Wave Festival project, was held on the Melbourne Museum plaza on 15 May.

Created by Perth artist Bennett Miller and performed by over fifty local dachshunds and their owners, the event was a popular and slightly absurd spectacular, as the U.N. Human Rights Committee was recreated with sausage dogs in place of the usual human delegates.

This video shows highlights from the setting up and staging of Dachshund U.N. Two more performances, on Saturday 22 and 29 May, will be held from 2-3 pm. Dachshund U.N. is a free event.

The event was fantastic and so much fun. It was really great to see a Festival get behind this artists idea. An idea that made everyone in the crowd laugh and smile for an hour last Saturday - true community engagement. Well done to the artist and festival.

Wow, we used to know Rex when he was just a dog!! He's really spread his wings....or hind legs...or whatever! I must say, we always know he was special. Yak would have been very proud. xxxx

Loved the performance and the video - somewhat absurd and lots of fun - the public seemed to enjoy the specatacle (and the dogs are really cute)!
