Museum Victoria's next exciting touring exhibition was announced yesterday. Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition will sail into Melbourne Museum from 14 May 2010, featuring treasures from the world's most famous ship.

The exhibition has been seen around the world but this exclusive Melbourne showing will mark its first arrival in the Southern Hemisphere. It has been created with a focus on the Titanic’s compelling human stories, told through authentic artefacts and exacting re-creations of the ship’s interior. Delicate bottles of perfume, china bearing the logo of the elite White Star Line, even a piece of the hull of the Titanic - these and many other objects collected from
the wreck site offer poignant connections to lives abruptly ended or forever changed by one of the world’s greatest maritime disasters.

Presented by Frontier Events, Premier Exhibitions, Inc., Museum Victoria and the Victorian State Government, the announcement was celebrated yesterday with Michael Gudinski, Managing Director of Frontier Events, donning a captain's hat and breaking a bottle over a projection of the ship's bow. A bronze cherub, once part of an ornate light fixture on Titanic, was unveiled; it will be moved to Melbourne Museum's foyer on 4 March to highlight the upcoming exhibition.

Online ticket sales for Titanic: The Artefact Exhibition will open on 15 April.
