The History & Technology Department conducts research and develops collections that document Victoria’s history in a national and international context, so as to facilitate the community’s understanding of the past and engagement with issues affecting our future.
The main themes shaping the department’s work are:
- The continuities and changes in society, technology and the constructed environment;
- How individuals and communities build their identities, through family, home, work, trade, technology, culture, institutions and place;
- Victoria and Australia ’s cultural diversity;
- Key contemporary and historical issues and events.
