Project Objectives
Gather research material relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) participation in the Armed Forces for potential inclusion in Bunjilaka exhibition.
Project Description
The project is to research ATSI involvement in the Armed Forces and gather material relating to this including identifying servicemen and women who fought for Australia and creating narratives of their experiences in the war and when they returned home. This research will have a particular focus on Victoria but also explore other narratives across the country such as the role of communities on Gove Peninsula in defending northern Australia during WWII. Research will include primary and secondary sources, the collation of images from within the Museum and externally and a list of collection materials from a variety of sources that could form the basis for a display.
Project Outcomes
A comprehensive overview of ATSI involvement in Australian wars, a series of narratives of the experiences of individuals during war and post-war, lists of images and objects relating to this topic.
Opportunities & Benefits
