This morning I chatted about Fiji with the friendly manager of Community Exhibitions at the Immigration Museum. I had scissors in my hand, at the time, sourcing newspaper articles for the noticeboard, looking for items about migration, multiculturalism and indigenous affairs. But it was all "Fiji treads in Burma's footsteps!" and "Stand by for dictatorship!" I wasn't sure how these articles related to the museum's upcoming Talanoa exhibition about the Fiji-born community in Victoria, and asked Briony about this. As we deliberated about the articles we were standing beside the cabinet in the Immigration Discovery Centre where books about Fiji are on display - most featuring images of a paradise-on-earth, others with subtitles like Shattered Coups.
