Family Photographs

Then and now

Family photographs show us how much we've changed and how much our family has changed. They also show us changing clothing and hairstyles, different cars and houses, and the things we liked to do. Often we look back at old photographs to see how much a tree has grown, a garden has changed or a house has got bigger.

Activity 3

Look at these photographs taken many years ago.

Discuss some of the differences between then and now.

Write about the differences, using copies of the photographs to illustrate your point.

Activity 4

Find some early photographs of your parents, grandparents or friends, or use photographs from the Biggest Family Album in Australia. Compare them with some recent photographs of yourself.

Look closely at clothes, hairstyle, expressions, belongings and the things people are doing.

Look at the background. Do the photographs show changes in transport, buildings, technology or the environment.

Compare the similarities and differences using two headings.

• Things that have stayed the same.
