Wanderer Butterflies, like all moths and butterflies, undergo
complete metamorphosis. The caterpillar (butterfly larva) eats plants to obtain
the energy to grow and then pupate. After 8–13 days of pupation, it emerges
from its pupal chrysalis as an adult butterfly. As an adult, it eats nectar to
obtain the energy to fly, reproduce and lay eggs for another generation.
