Description:
Less than 15mm in length with elongated bodies. Most are wingless. Final segments of forelimbs are greatly swollen and contain silk glands. They weave narrow silken tunnels under rocks, bark or leaf litter. Hind legs are adapted for running both backwards and forwards along their tunnels. Eat leaves, bark, mosses and lichens. Insect parasites are major predators. |
