Lacewings and Antlions

Class: Insecta
Phylum: Arthropoda
Order: Neuroptera

Description:
Large, soft-bodied insects with 2 pairs of large wings. Wingspans vary from 5-150mm. Adults are very similar to alderflies and dobsonflies, except the veins in their wings branch at the edges. Larvae are terrestrial and have large sickle-shaped mouthparts. Larvae eat other insects, impaling their prey and sucking out the juices. Adults mainly eat plants. Predators include other insects, spiders, frogs, reptiles and birds.
