Caddisflies

Description:
Medium-size insects up to 40mm in length. Resemble hairy moths with their muted colourings. Unlike moths, their wings are densely covered in hairs rather than scales. Found around freshwater streams or ponds. Aquatic larvae eat a range of plant and algae, and sometimes other insects. Predators on the larvae are mainly fish. Predators on the adults include spiders, birds, bats, reptiles and frogs. |
