Slugs and Snails
Class: Gastropoda

Order: Thirteen known orders
Description:
Range from 10-100mm. Have a soft, unsegmented body and a prominent head with eyes and 2 tentacles (or feelers). Move along slime using a large muscular ‘foot’. Many have a single, coiled shell into which they can retreat. Different species are found in terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments. Land snails and slugs like moist environments. Eat rotting vegetation, fungi, algae and lichens. Predators include beetles, centipedes, frogs, birds and lizards. |
