The knowledge, skills and histories of the First Peoples of Victoria provide a different perspective on exhibitions across the Melbourne Museum. This guide provides teachers and students with the opportunity to consider key stories that relate to the Koories of Victoria.
The guide takes students to the Science and Life Galleries as well as the Forest Gallery, Milarri Garden and Bunjilaka. Along the way students might find some hidden stories they have not encountered before.
The Koorie Guide to Melbourne Museum is the first step in the implementation of the cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in the Australian Curriculum, delivered as AusVELS in Victoria. It is also an invaluable resource for general vistors to explore Koorie stories across the museum galleries.
A related Education Kit contains a Teacher Guide with a list of focus questions to facilitate conversation and learning. Teachers can use the jigsaw approach by dividing students into expert groups that gather information on specific displays.
