50th Anniversary medal of King George III, 1809

This medal was produced by the London medallist Thomas Halliday and sold to commemorate the 50th year of the reign of George III. Originally there would have been a ribbon through the hole to be pinned to clothing.

Obverse – A profile bust of George III with the legend GOD SAVE THE KING.

Reverse – On the back is the legend IN COMMEMORATION OF GEORGE III KING OF GREAT BRITAIN AND IRELAND * 25 OCTOBER 1809 * HAVING THIS DAY COMMENCED THE 50TH YEAR OF HIS REIGN. BELOVED BY HIS PEOPLE; HIS ACTIONS THE GLORY OF ALL HIS SUBJECTS; AND THE VENERATION OF ALL THE WORLD
