Burke and Wills medal, 1861

This is a medal struck to commemorate the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition. Although they succeeded in crossing Australia from south to north, all members of the expedition perished on the return journey.

Obverse – Figures of Robert O'Hara Burke and William John Wills, and around them the inscription BURKE & WILLS.		Reverse – The legend IN COMMEMORATION OF AUSTRALIA BEING FIRST CROSSED BY BURKE WILLS KING GRAY IN 1861.
