Gold! (18511864)The discovery of gold in 1851 had an extraordinary impact upon the economic and cultural development of Victoria. Melbourne's population exploded and country towns flourished. During this period, local merchants had to make their own small change. This is an example of the hundreds of varieties made in Victoria.
