Antoinette Smith

Senior Curator, Indigenous Cultures of Southeastern Australia

Antoinette Smith has held this role since 2006, working with the collections of southeastern Australia: Victoria, Tasmania, New South Wales and southeastern South Australia. Prior to joining MV, Antoinette worked for two years in policy development at the Indigenous Housing and Infrastructure Branch of ATSIC and eight years for the Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages as a researcher.

Background

Antoinette is from northern Tasmania and has Aboriginal heritage from the northeast region where her family has a rich and varied history of convict and European heritage.

The small significant Tasmanian collections and fibre works from the region have been a particular area of research interest for Antoinette since commencing at Museum Victoria.
