Stratigraphic Collection

The Invertebrate Palaeontology stratigraphic collection includes unidentified and unregistered bulk material of over 3 million specimens. Material is arranged by geological age and geographical locality.

The collection is representative of the fossil fauna at particular geological horizons or localities, allowing unsorted material to be accessed by researchers looking at specific time periods and/or geographical regions.

As Australia's largest collection of fossils from the south-eastern part of the continent, it is unsurpassed in several areas including Tertiary fossils and Silurian and Early Devonian shelly fossils from Victoria.
