Martin’s work as a curator and science communicator involves a wide range of activities, including the history of science, communication theory, indigenous knowledge traditions and the science of natural phenomena.
Martin studied physics at the University of Queensland where he graduated with a BSc (Hons). His honours project involved modelling the quantum motion of a single ion. He then obtained a MSc from the Australian National University in Science Communication with a thesis looking at the representation of David Unaipon, the Indigenous Australian writer and inventor portrayed on the $50 note.
Martin has been working at Museum Victoria since 1998. Since then, Martin has been involved in the curatorial development of many exhibitions and planetarium shows.
At Melbourne Museum he lead the development of the Science Arcade and International Polar Year display at Melbourne Museum and contributed to the recent Dynamic Earth exhibition.
At Scienceworks he was co-curator for Sportsworks and developed the International Year of Astronomy displays at Scienceworks and a number of other small displays.
Planetarium show credits include curating Stories in the Stars, about the Indigenous Australian night sky stories of the Boorong, and writing the script for Our Living Climate, the Melbourne Planetarium’s most recent fulldome show.
