Book - MS Messapia & MS Enotria, Adriatica Venezia, 1964 Document Reg. No: HT 6493

Book issued by Adriatica Venezia, 1964. It is a travel information book for passengers travelling on the ships MS Messapia and MS Enotria. It is part of a collection of 175 items of post-war ship memorabilia collected by John McKay. John began collecting shipping brochures as a boy through an interest in travel and later used some of the material in his professional capacity as a Geography and Social Studies teacher. He finally made a voyage himself in 1957-1958, to England to attend a scouting jamboree, although he ended up staying for 18 months. He remembers lots of Australians going over at that time, and references to Earls Court as 'Kangaroo Alley'.
16 page, staple-bound booklet, folded in half once. Printed on white paper in Italian, French, English and German languages. The front cover features a blue background with a central image of a domed church with three palm trees. It has white and black text. A central page folds open to list fares and taxes.

I travelled on these ships in the late 1950s as a ten year old to Cyprus from Venice, we returned to Genoa. I would love to know what happened to these ships.

I travelled on the Enotria in the Summer of 1965. Wonderful memories of a great trip from Venice to Haifa (Israel). Stopping at Brindisi, Pireus (Athens)and Cyprus for local trips. Sitting on Deck to watch the Dawn rising as we sailed through the Greek Islands and almost touching the walls as we manoevered through the Corinth Canal. Unfortunately the Brochure 'capture' is such low resolution that I find it almost impossible to read.
