Hello Timothy! This medal was produced to commemorate the visit of QEII to Rockhampton, and is part of a tradition of medals produced for school children to commemorate significant public events. There were 1500 medals minted. Enjoy your find!

Hi there, Narelle. We can't find the name of the vehicle in our own records. Even the newspaper article from the period available at this website refers to it as simply "the Royal car." For detailed information about the visit, you may be interested in this website by the National Archives of Australia, although note that the only clue about vehicles at that website is the reference to the Royal Visit Car Company, who presumably arranged the car/s. Hope this helps!

Hi Narelle, after further investigation we've come up with some other answers. An article with an image of the Queen's car from Rockhampton's Morning Bulletin of 16 March 1954 is a Humber Super Snipe Convertible (a Rootes Group car) which was probably transported in the Royal Yacht Britannia for the Tour. This web page indicates that the car was a 1953 model made especially for the tour.

Yes! A black Humber Super Snip convertible. I was a member of a school cadet corp. who had to stand in the March sun to but see them cruising by. Oh! The extasy of it all!.
