Apple Macintosh Software - VideoWorks, 3½" Floppy Disk, 1985 Object Reg. No: HT 13654

VideoWorks software package is an animation program for creating, producing and directing animations.

VideoWorks is significant because it morphed from an animation program for creating, producing and directing animations into an application that became widely used in the production of videos. It adopted the metaphor of a 'movie' with the user as the director of the movie.

VideoWorks was released in 1985. In 1987, it was released as 'Director', with a further version being released in 1988 incorporating the scripting language Lingo. A Windows version was not released until the early 1990s. In 1993 it became MacroMedia Director. In 2005 it was acquired by Adobe Systems.

This item is part of a representative collection of hardware, software, trade literature and promotional material that documents the history of the Apple company, and its contribution to, and impact on the computer industry and society.
