Apple Macintosh Software Game - 'Transylvania', 3½" Floppy Disk, 1984 Object Reg. No: HT 13543

Apple Macintosh software game on a 3.5 inch floppy disk, introduced in 1984. No manual is included.

'Transylvania' was a user-friendly adventure game that ran on the Mac, Transylvania. According to the donor it had fancy graphics and even the occasional sound effect. The task to save the Princess was long and dangerous, but thoroughly enjoyable and challenging. For the donor it remains a happy memory in what was a very lucky childhood.

In 1984, as a fourteen-year-old, the donor was asked by his father to investigate computers for his business. The donor went into the store of an Apple reseller, and within an hour had worked out how to use the recently released computer they called a Macintosh, and its programs. He attracted a crowd watching him, with the result that he was offered a job on the spot. He also persuaded his father to part with over AUD$4,000 for the computer (one of the first sold in Australia), which he estimates to be over AUD$10,000 in 2006 terms.

This item is part of a representative collection of hardware, software, trade literature and promotional material that documents the history of the Apple company, and its contribution to, and impact on the computer industry and society.
