Inscriptions: Text: Dear Harry/I suppose you have/been inundated with letters of sympathy/over the death of Phar Lap. I do/not know whether you will/appreciate my sympathy but I feel/that I must drop you a line and/offer it. Perhaps I can sympathise/with you more deeply that a/majority of others as only a few/months ago I suffered a terrible/loss myself in the death of my/little boy Alec. he died after/an operation for appendicitis/the operation so the doctor said/was successful and we thought/everything was O.K. when the rang/us up from the hospital to say he/was gone. It has been a terrible/blow to my wif & myself; however I/commenced by offering sympathy to you &/not intending to burden you with my own/troubles. I saw sometime ago where young/Harry has now a sister to keep him/company, that is great for him, there is/no doubt that a boy and girl make/an ideal family./What a tragedy Phar Laps death was! It/must have been a terrible shock for you/besides being a tremendous financial/loss. I hope that you have a few horses/in the stables that will speedily/compensate in some way for the/great loss you have suffered.
