Marine Steam Engine Model - Quadruple-Expansion, 1928 Object Reg. No: ST 16887

Inverted vertical surface-condensing quadruple-expansion four-cylinder reciprocating marine steam engine model. Purchased from James Struthers, Renfrew, Scotland, 05/03/1928. With surface condenser, Stephensons link motion and vacuum pump, also marine type thrust bearings on outer end of crankshaft. Mounted on metal stand with electric motor and chain-drive mechanism fitted to object about 1991 when it was being prepared for an interactive display at Scienceworks.
