Photograph - Kodak Australasia Pty Ltd, Glass Plate Building at the Kodak Factory, Abbotsford, Victoria, circa 1940s
Reg. No: MM 96569
- Summary:
- Black and white silver gelatin photograph of the Kodak Australasia factory in Abbotsford, Victoria, circa 1940s.
This photograph features the Glass Plate Building, where photographic glass plates were made. The role of this building is evident from the windows, which have been closed up. Light sensitive photographic products like glass plates had to be made in the dark, under 'safe light' conditions. Pipes connect this building to the tower at right. In the foreground is a garden area with grass, trees and shrubs, and a bench seat. A man is playing on the grass with a model aeroplane.
Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.
This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down. - Description:
