Photograph - Kodak Australasia Pty Ltd, Staff Residence at the Kodak Factory, Abbotsford, Victoria, 1940-1959 Image Reg. No: MM 96575

Summary:
Black and white silver gelatin photograph of a house on the Kodak Australasia factory site in Abbotsford, Victoria, 1940-1959.

This photograph shows a house on the Kodak factory site, taken from the east side of the site looking north west. Houses were provided for some staff by Kodak on the factory site. At this house, washing has been hung out to dry on a single, prop style washing line in the backyard. A corrugated iron water tank is sitting on the ground in the backyard at far left near a tree. The side fence is not complete and there is no back fence. An open structure with a rusted tin roof is attached to the wall of the neighbouring building at left. Trees are behind the neighbouring building at left, as well as at the front of the house on the right. In the mid right of the photograph, two cars are parked at the front of the house. In the foreground an undeveloped area of bare dirt is visible.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.
