Other Details: From public coin-operated press in visitor Gallery struck during a visit of John Sharples to mint. This medal was not only to serve as a memento, but also to demonstrate the new bi-metallic minitig technology. It features a view of the mint from an early photograph (c. 1965) and a scene of minting at Paris in 1500 with the Melbourne Mint 1872 press from the RAM collection in the background. It was struck on a coin press retired from coin production after 15 years in 1990.
Description:
A bi-metallic medal from public coin-operated press in visitor Gallery struck during a visit of John Sharples to mint. This medal was not only to serve as a memento, but also to demonstrate the new bi-metallic minitig technology. It features a view of the mint based on an early photograph (c. 1965) and a scene of minting at Paris in 1500 with the Melbourne Mint 1872 press from the RAM collection in the background. The ring is cupro-nickel and the slug aluminium-bronze.
