Summary:
View at back of the old homestead on the property 'Willis Vale' during the depression. The property in Greensborough was established in 1839 and later acquired by the Partington family around the early 1870s. The property continued to function as a working farm up to this point and the orchard established by Robert Whatmough on the property in the 1870s and 1880s was still there, although the Partingtons had moved into dairy cattle. The orchard began to deteriorate from this time until its demise in the 1960s. William James Partington died in 1941 and Aunty Jess died in 2000 at 85.

The people depicted are believed to be William James Partington, and his daughter Jessie May Partington, who was born in 1915 and married in 1935.

William James Partington was the owner of the Willis Vale property at this time this photograph was taken. He had inherited it was his parents Charles & Ellen Partington, who owned the property at the the time that Robert Whatmough had his orchard and nursery there.

Robert Whatmough ran his successful Nursery from this property in the late nineteenth century. The connection to the the Partington's was by the marriage of Robert's sister Ellen to Charles Partington.
