Poster - Rally for Justice Free the Refugees, Refugee Action Collective, Aug 2002 Reg. No: HT 1020
- Poster advertising a Rally for Justice, with the slogan 'Free the Refugees'. It was issued by the Refugee Action Collective in August 2002 to promote a rally at the State Library on 30 August 2002. The Refugee Action Collective grew out of a national grassroots protest movement in response to the treatment of refugees and mandatory detention. First established in 2000, it gained momentum during the Tampa crisis in August 2001. The Victorian branch met weekly on Tuesday nights at Trades Hall, organised protest rallies, sit-ins, media campaigns as well as participated in sympathetic activities organised by other groups. This poster illustrates the ongoing significance of the Tampa crisis as a symbol of the refugee debate and its continuing resonance one year later.
- Poster with outline of a ship on the water in black against a red background. Text on the poster is in red and white.
