Livingstone met Queen Victoria on 13 February 1858 when he had returned to the United Kingdom for a little over a year from December 1856 to March 1858. It is said that Livingstone told Her Majesty that he would now be able to say to the natives that he had seen his chief, his not having done so before having been surprise to the African children.
