Decking Plank - Mount Disappointment, 07 Feb 2009 (Bushfire Damaged)
Reg. No: HT 23737
- Summary:
- This outdoor decking, from Bill Coppinger's home at Mount Disappointment lost in the Kilmore East Bushfire on 7 February 2009. It was found near the swimming pool. The area of the deck totalled 225 square metres (nearly double the footprint of the house) over three levels, joined by five sets of stairs. Following the fire, which distroyed the timber decking, lines of nails were found on the ashes. The donor remarked on the order of the nails, which indicated the speed and heat in which the decking was burnt. Some things vaporized in place.
This is part of the Victorian Bushfires Collection, which includes a number of interviews with Bill Coppinger and a large range of fire affected artefacts from his destroyed home. - Description:
- Segment of decking plank with 3 x 3 inch nails adhered to charred timber surface.
- Acquisition Information:
- Donation from Mr Bill Coppinger, 2009
