Case 8 - Cabinet One, Printing Type, Monotype, 12pt Gill Sans Italic, circa 1900s-1940s
Reg. No: HT 24291 8
- Summary:
- Case (techical name for drawer) of monotype.
From the Victorian Government Printing Office, this particular case belongs to a cabinet of type that appears to have been used in the Education section.
Each of the twenty four cases (except one) in the cabinet is full of new and unused monotype and it may be surmised that when the Government Printing Office ceased hot metal production and moved to dispose of its monotype casters they filled the cases with the specific view of retaining examples of hot metal. The Cabinet is from F. T. Wimble and is a beautiful example of 20th century printer's furniture. - Description:
- Wooden case (technical name for drawer) with central wooden handle. Case partitioned by wooden dividers into three sections. Each of these three sections is further partitioned by wooden dividers into different sized compartments containing type.
